Lisa Eldridge Makeup

A celebrity, fashion and film makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge launched her namesake brand in 2018 with True Velvet Lipsticks. The makeup brand has enjoyed many accolades, winning awards and high praise within the press. Lisa strives to formulate effective makeup and skincare products with high-quality, thoughtful ingredients that actively support the skin.

This isn’t Lisa’s first forey into blush. Seamless Skin Enlivening Blush (the previous blush of 2021) was a massive hit, but packaging issues led to the blush being sidelined (the brand actively sought to refund those affected), and we still await further developments here.

Velatura Balm is not to be confused with the previous launch. It is an entirely different concept and formula; this is a blush and lip balm in stick form that can be used on the cheeks, lips and brow bone. She stands proudly on my vanity awaiting her review, so let’s get to it.

The Packaging

Lisa Eldridge Velatura Balm Dewy Lip and Cheek Stick review cruelty free makeup on a marble plate. A lavender card box next to a cream tube that houses a rose coloured cream blush stick.
For the first time, we have a change in the packaging colourway with a lavender-hued cardboard box that carries the logo and product details. The shade is so sophisticated! The blusher itself is a compact but chunky white stick with a gold lid that removes with a pull action, revealing the cream product in a twist-up stick.

Less formal in appearance and consistency than a lipstick, lighter in feel than Gloss Embrace or Baume Embrace, Velatura is effective at holding a place of its own.

Velatura Balm Dewy Lip and Cheek – Review

I wanted to test wearing the balm in a few different ways. Following Lisa’s advice, on bare skin I applied the stick directly (no makeup) from the stick and found it works beautifully. It is very lightweight and easy to manipulate. Simply tapping blends the product seamlessly.

For my next round of testing, to ensure my base makeup wasn’t disturbed by a sweeping motion, I rubbed the blush onto my fingers and tapped it onto my cheeks. This was absolutely effortless – foolproof! It is definitely sheer, as described, but easily builds up intensity as you go, so perfect if you’re looking for a subtle flush or want to dial up colour.

You can watch this application in action in this reel here! It’s my first application, and you can really see how effortless it is.

The finish is a radiant, dewy one that instantly brings health to your face (trust me, I lack this, so it’s all down to the product!).

There is a translucency to the blush, allowing it to look incredibly natural, a true ‘lit-from-within’ moment and fully cements the reason behind the name ‘Velatura:

Velatura in British English. Noun: a thin layer of paint somewhat like a glaze but opaque or semi-opaque rather than transparent

Lisa’s team kindly selected Rose Madder to suit my skin tone, and it works very well. I am fair with pinks in my undertone and blue/green veins, this shade complements this mix.

Rose Madder is a true natural, cool pink with some warm undertones and looks effortlessly natural on the skin.

I found there to be a flattering blurring effect to my skin, but I can’t see this mentioned anywhere!

Being a balm, the blusher isn’t the most long-wearing of products, but can easily be topped up throughout the day.

It doesn’t fully dry down, so there is a little tack to the skin but it isn’t sticky or greasy. It has a truly effortless feel to it, both in how weightless it feels and in its ease of application and ability to top up. It’s a ‘no-faff gal’ kind of product.

This is ideal for makeup on the go, touch-ups through the day, throwing into handbags and makeup bags, and travelling abroad. It is effortless, seamless makeup in minutes- if that.

For The Lips

Now look, I’m somewhat obsessed with an Eldridge lip product – I can’t help myself, I swear Lisa Eldridge’s makeup is my Kryptonite – but this vast experience (nay addiction) enables me to give a well-rounded review.

Velatura Balm is unlike any lip product in the brand’s existing line. It is a thin, light consistency, feeling barely there in weight yet incredibly hydrating and satisfyingly smooth at the same time.

It nourishes my lips well and lasts for a reasonable time for a balm. Less formal in appearance and consistency than a lipstick, lighter in feel than Gloss Embrace or Baume Embrace, Velatura is effective at holding a place of its own.

Who Is Lisa Eldridge’s Velatura Balm For

Perfect for a carefree, natural, dewy makeup lover.

This is ideal for makeup on the go, touch-ups through the day, throwing into handbags and makeup bags, and travelling abroad. It is effortless, seamless makeup in minutes- if that.

For those who look for full coverage, long wear, matte finish blush, this one isn’t for you.

Final Thoughts

If like me, you’re always on the hunt for the best cream blush, then I know you’ll be excited for this new launch! This is perfect for quick and easy makeup routines and mornings in a rush. There is such a painterly finish to the blush that makes it very beautiful and leaves you looking healthy and radiant. I’m a fan and know I’ll be picking up another shade. I have a feeling this may be a new Spring makeup favourite.
