Mii Cosmetics Cleanse & Care Brush Cleaner Balm

Ok time for some brush cleansing tips! A good makeup application really does start with clean tools. Dirty makeup brushes can be full of blemish causing bacteria and just don’t perform as well when clogged with makeup. A good tool cleaning routine makes all the difference -both to your skin health and to your overall makeup routine. I’ve been enjoying Mii Cosmetics Cleanse & Care Brush Cleaner Balm, so let me break down why it makes a handy addition to your brush care routine.

Review

The Cleanse & Care Brush Cleaner Balm is a gentle, fragrance free (important if you have sensitive skin – yes the soap we use to clean tools with can impact us) makeup brush cleaning soap. The soap lathers with ease and begins to immediately work away at the makeup in the bristles. The textured surface of the silicone pad is great for working in the soap and breaking down the oils and dirt. It’s a vegan friendly soap that builds suds well and is effective and makes light work of an essential job. Rinsing away without leaving any residue my brushes are left looking much cleaner. For brushes dirty with powder one wash works well, if your brushes are heavy laden, a simply double cleanse will do the trick.

Pro Makeup Brush Cleaning Tips:

  • Pointing the head downwards, wet brush head throughly in warm, not hot water (you don’t want to soak them as water can breakdown the glue in the ferrule that holds the brush hairs together)
  • Swirl brush in soap
  • Gently massage brush into hand or on a silicone pad to lather – you don’t need to add force.
  • Rinse with brush head facing down.
  • Repeat if necessary
  • Gently squeeze excess water
  • Reshape brush if necessary
  • Dry with brush head over a table edge so air can circulate (don’t dry on a radiator or over heat)
  • If grease/oil/longwear products are being particularly stubborn washing with a little Fairy Liquid will remove the product.

I demo with it here (granted, it looks more new here!)

Tips:

For personal use you should be cleaning brushes weekly (more often if you have an active blemish) and professional artists must clean brushes after each client and sanitise with 70% isopropyl alcohol ( or of course use a fresh set of brushes per client and wash once the job is finished).

To Finish

I find soaps one of the quickest and easiest ways to clean brushes so reaching for this is a no brainer.. The Mii Cosmetics Cleanse & Care Brush Cleaner Balm is a great travel friendly kit essential.
