CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet Review – Red Light Therapy For Hair Loss

AD

Hair thinning, hair loss and hair shedding can affect many of us; whether it’s due to stress, hormonal shifts, ill health or simply getting older it can feel frustrating when your hair no longer looks or feels as full as it once did. I’m testing the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet to see whether red light therapy can genuinely support hair regrowth and scalp health at home and if it’s something that can easily be implemented into a routine. Grab a cuppa and sit down with me while I review how the hair growth device works, how I used it and what results you can realistically expect.

TL;DR – Who Is the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet For?

Currentbody LED hair growth helmet A beauty device to treat signs of hair loss, hair thinning, alopecia, male pattern baldness

The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet is designed for people with early to moderate hair thinning or hair loss who want a non-invasive, at-home hair regrowth treatment. It is best suited to those with active hair follicles, including women experiencing hormonal or stress-related shedding and men or women with early pattern hair loss. This certainly peaked my attention!

Chronic illness, stress and perimenopause has been the triple threat to me this last year and my hair has felt the brunt of it. I’d estimate I’ve lost half of its thickness and with it faced the emotional onslaught that comes with hair loss. I’ve become much more aware of my hair; the thinning, the extra shedding and how my ill health has impacted it. Stress and changes in hormones can quietly affect both women and men over time. It’s not something we talk about enough but let’s face it, it’s incredibly common (perimenopause screaming in the sidelines over here!). I was thrilled when the CurrentBody team asked me to try their hair loss device. Our bond to our hair is an emotional one so only honest thoughts here (as always). Let’s dive in.

The device is intended for consistent daily use over several months and is not designed to treat advanced baldness or deliver instant results. So, you have to start as soon as possible and as always with beauty devices – LED face masks, micro current devices and so on – consistency is key if you want results. With this in mind I unboxed the rather sci-fi looking helmet and prepared to undertake my new daily hair growth routine endeavour!

Each wavelength penetrates the scalp at different depths, combined for maximum results.

This non-invasive treatment, that actually feels quite relaxing, works in four proven areas to support hair growth.

  1. Energises hair follicles: Stimulates the cells at the root, helping them grow visibly stronger, healthier hair.
  2. Nourishes follicles: Supports the hair at the root with vital nourishment, fuelling healthy growth.
  3. Calms and balances: Soothes the appearance of redness and irritation while balancing oil production, supporting a healthy environment for growth.
  4. Boosts cellular energy: Energises the cells responsible for kickstarting new hair growth, supporting the hairs natural growth cycle.

    The Device

The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet comes in a large presentation and storage box and sits on a display stand which keeps it nice and safe.

Be prepared to enter into another realm! The hair growth helmet is like something out of a movie! It’s a white hard plastic design that fits to the contours of your head. The interior is fitted with LED lights and cushioned pads for comfort.

With two sizes to choose from you can pick which helmet fits best. Now it’s a little bit fancy. It comes fitted with over ear headphones which connect to your phone via Bluetooth allowing you to play music, podcasts, meditation – whatever tickles your fancy – to your hearts content. Whoever said consistent beauty treatments needed to be a chore eh?

Simply pull the device over the head as you might a cycle helmet and press the button on the front and you’re off.

The helmet automatically shuts off at the end of the 10 minute treatment with the countdown timer showing on the outside. It really is that simple.

The device charges on a USB C cable provided and comes with charge so is good to go. Perfect if you’re eager to get going (read:me). It’s very easy to slot into your routine and does sit nicely on my bedroom table.

I do say this with slight caution however, the helmet and stand is quite large overall so be prepared to prioritise some space and of course, set up time in your daily routine as that’s where the science shows results.

My one note is that it is quite weighty, this is worth taking into consideration if you have any joint and/or hyper mobility issues.

    Results Backed By Science

The clinical study behind the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet suggests that consistent use can help support hair growth, improve thickness, and create a healthier scalp over time.

People using the device daily began to notice early changes, such as improved scalp comfort and a reduction in hair shedding after around 6 to 8 weeks, with more visible improvements in hair fullness and growth by 12 weeks.

How Does It Compare to Other Hair Growth Treatments?

One of the major benefits to this device in my eyes is that, while a big investment, it is a one off purchase; you won’t be repurchasing serums or supplements, or having more salon treatments – although you can should you wish and it is deemed safe by a professional.

What Makes This Device Different To Others?

    • Full scalp coverage helmet: Even LED distribution ensures optimal light absorption across the entire scalp.
    • Hands-free: A wearable device that fits easily into your routine.
    • 2 size options for a better fit: Available in Medium (54cm – 58.9cm) or Large (59cm – 63.5cm).
    • Bluetooth connectivity: Enjoy listening to music or podcasts during treatment

    Price

There’s no getting around it, at £649.99 this isn’t cheap and is certainly a considered purchase. It is an investment and that is how I look at beauty devices in general. They are tools that garner results with consistency and in a way, that makes me even more strict when it comes to use! They will not become victim to dust bunnies!

When it comes to an investment like this, I’d always suggest you do your research and take into consideration devices that have clinical studies behind them. That is key.

    My Verdict (So Far)

I’ve had my hands (or head…) on this for a few weeks now and while I can’t speak to any hair growth results just yet I can say that it’s easy to implement it into my daily routine. I keep it on my bedside table and pop it on after cleansing before bed. It’s become part of my wind down routine.

I’m excited at the prospect of hair regrowth and scalp health benefits over time but I appreciate that this isn’t going to be noticeable at this point. It is a pricy device, there’s no getting around that and I do wonder if there’s perhaps an option for one without the headphones that may reduce both the weight and the price point. Although, the headphones do help the helmet fit snugly so there is a line of thought that they are perhaps both a practical and a technical boujee element to their design.

I must say boujee is the term that seems fitting for this hair loss device – as I sit Stormtrooper-esque listening to my ‘wind down’ playlist with an LED glow tickling (metaphorically of course) my hair follicles and soothing my scalp. It does feel ever so lux.

If it’s in your budget and you’re looking to boost your hair longevity routine then it’s worth a little look.

The proof will be in the pudding – I guess I’ll see you in 3 months with my results; judging by the science, I can’t wait.
