What Is It?

A light-weight, liquid foundation that is luminous but dries to a matte finish. It has an ultra fine texture that doesn’t accentuate pores or fine lines and melts beautifully over the skin for a skin like finish.

By Terry Say:

“Hydrating foundation. Perfects and hydrates skin. Buildable coverage. Infused with hyaluronic acid. Protects with SPF 30. Long-wear. Vegan formula.

Hardworking, luminous and weightless, Hyaluronic Hydra-Foundation floods skin with moisture, delivering seamless coverage with an ultra-fine texture. It suits all skin types and is a particularly good foundation for dry skin, working to plump out wrinkles and fine lines and create a matte luminous finish. With light-reflecting pigments to create a lit-from-within allure.” -By Terry

It is a long wear. formula with buildable coverage.

Skincare Benefits

Taking a browse through the ingredients list, these are stand outs for me:

SPF 30 in the form of titanium dioxide (nano) and titanium dioxide.

The foundation is rich in glycerin (one of my favourite hydrating ingredients) and caprylic triglyceride which is an excellent emollient derived from glycerin and coconut oil. As well as this it contains hyaluronic acid, a humectant, which draws moisture into the skin, making it a very hydrating formula.

It also contains niacinamide which helps support the skins lipid barrier, can reduce the appearance of pore size and help even skins appearance overall.

So it’s makeup but with some cracking skincare benefits to boost.

Coverage And Staying Power

The formula allows for it to be a buildable coverage. By Terry suggest 2 drops for sheer coverage, 4 drops for medium coverage and 6 drops for full coverage. I applied 4 drops and found that it was more than sufficient to cover all of my unwanted redness and even my skin tone while allowing for a fresh finish without a heavy complexion.

I found that the foundation lasted a good 8hrs without any wear* or need to touch up. I only took it off at this point because I was too tired and needed to sleep. Judging by it’s lack of wear and ability to stay put over a few days of testing I’m sure it will last longer!

*The only area that showed slight wear is where my glasses sit on my nose, this happens with all makeup.

I’m wearing shade 200 Neutral with the By Terry Brightening CC palette on top. I took this photo in natural light (in front of a window) on portrait mode on an iPhone 11 Pro. There’s no editing to the skin whatsoever, this is the true finish of the foundation.
Finish

The finish of the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Foundation is matte. However, there are light reflecting particles within the foundation allowing for a ‘lit-from-within’ glow, without shine. It’s truly beautiful.

Claims

The foundation is vegan friendly formula.

Most Suited To
  • Those who like a matte finish to their makeup.
  • Most skin types, in particular dry skins.

However, If I’m honest I think that this is a foundation that would suit a broad spectrum of makeup wearers. Those who like a matte finish will enjoy this element to the Hydra-foundation. A beauty of it is the natural radiance it gives and that will be appealing to anyone who likes a matte finish but wishes for more radiant appearance.

The Hyaluronic Hydra aspect will appeal to those of drier skin types as the moisturising nature of the foundation is comforting on the skin and has the added benefits of plumping due to this humectant ingredient.

I have combination-oily skin type and I enjoy the matte finish that helps control my shiny t-zone but love the radiance in the foundation that gives me a healthy glow.

Price

By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Foundation £49.00 30ml

Comparable To?

In terms of texture I find it most comparable to the Chanel Ultra Le Teint Velvet Foundation. It has a similar lightweight feel to it, an airy ‘no makeup makeup’ touch to your skin and sets to a comfortable matte. The difference between the two in finish is that the Chanel Velvet is a matte finish where as the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra is a matte radiant finish. Both are beautifying to the skin but in slightly different ways.

Final Thoughts

I kinda wish I didn’t love this so much because it’s pricey in nature but I really do (head in hands!). It’s cracking guys! Truly light-weight and I mean you forget you’re wearing it, buildable in a lovely, layering manner; without becoming cakey; the By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra-Foundation is a dream to apply. It has the same light reflecting particles I remarked about in my review of the By Terry Brightening CC Palette, those that instantly give the skin an ethereal ‘lit from within’ healthy glow, yet the finish is matte. A wonderful oxymoron. It has lasted all day and covered my redness well. The hyaluronic acid skin care benefits is a nice touch, helping to hydrate the skin and plump my fine lines and I’m a fan of the added SPF30, although I will never rely on a foundation souly for my SPF. For me, a gal in the oily skinned category, By Terry has done something that I’ve yeared for for far too long. They’ve created a radiant matte base product. Gone is the flat matte. Hello hydrated, radiant skin.

I’m a lover not a fighter guys and I really loved this little addition to my makeup stash.
