Max Factor 2000 Calorie Lip Glaze
Did you know that Max Factor is thought to have invented the first version of lip gloss as we know it today? That was back in 1928, not far off a hundred years later the brand is back (of course with many iterations in between!) with its newest formula.

Packaging
2000 Calorie Lip Glaze comes in a standard lip gloss tube. The tube is transparent allowing the lip gloss shade to show through which is useful for selecting your shade of choice.
The doe foot is quite large which I enjoy as you can cover a whole lip easily in one sweep. The shape is also well-designed enabling the user to gently carve the gloss to the shape of the lips.
Shades
I have the Lip Glaze in four shades. I must say I enjoy them all! They are all flattering and have a range of pigment densities, ranging from transparent with icy sparkles to a bolder pink.
‘Melting Ice’ is a clear lipgloss with shimmer particles. It wears well alone but is also lovely worn on top of lipstick. ‘Cotton Candy’ is a nude in a sheer finish. It gives the appearance of a fuller lip and is a lovely sheer, everyday shade.
There is a tingle after application and this creates a ‘plumping’ effect leading to a fuller-looking lip. I think you can see this along the photos as I took them one by one so by the shade ‘Berry Sorbet’ I’d had a few on in a row! The ‘fuller’ effect certainly shows!
‘Pink Fizz’ is a vibrant coral-pink shade with a shimmer finish. It is such a pretty shade and a beautiful finish. ‘Berry Sorbet’ is a vibrant pink berry shade on my lip tone. It is the strongest of pigment load out of the selection I have and the finish is a cream. This is one that you can easily wear alone and achieve a bold lip shade.

I have chosen not to wear a lipliner with these swatches to give a true representation of the shades and fullness that can be achieved using the gloss alone – on 41-year-old lips.
Now I was at uni in the early 00s, I was a girl of the lip gloss era – well the frosty pinks or ‘concealer lips + clear lip gloss’ lips were the lip look of the time; I know a thing or two about sticky glosses. Whilst there is some tackiness to the Max Factor 2000 Calorie Lip Glaze, it is more like the oil-gloss textures we have become accustomed to, not the former stickiness of yesteryear.
I’m not a huge fan of the name, I find this outdated and while it’s true “2000 Calorie” is a well-known range for the brand, in 2024 do we really need to be referring to calories when describing products that increase the volume of our body parts? Certainly food for thought…
Final Thoughts
As a whole, these lip glosses are great. They feel conditioning and the shade range varies both in pigment intensity and in the gloss finish. This allows you to pick and choose whether you wish to opt for a gloss that imparts a simple glaze, one that you choose to enhance your favourite lipstick or a full-on bold hue that dresses the lips with a sparkle. I don’t find the tingling sensation too much (as I have with some brands) and think they are a great drugstore lip gloss option.
