Skin Rocks The Moisturiser & The Rich Moisturiser

Skin Rocks by Caroline Hirons is a brand I finally got to try in the latter half of last year and boy, I was not disappointed! More recently I’ve had two of the skincare staples to play with in my skincare cupboard and I’m ready to share my thoughts. Today’s review is all about the Skin Rocks The Moisturiser & The Rich Moisturiser.

Skin Rocks The Moisturiser & The Rich Moisturiser

Skin Rocks is a buzzword, or ‘buzz-name’ rather, in the skincare industry these days. If you’ve heard of Caroline Hirons (skincare guru) then you’ll know of her skincare baby Skin Rocks. What the brand offers is a collection of well-curated products to form skincare routines suited to your needs; be that to treat a specific skin concern for example fine lines or hormonal skin or to find a product best suited to your skin type.

The two products up for review today are the brand’s moisturiser. The Moisturiser, the original formula and The Rich Moisturiser which launched a little earlier this year and is, as the name would suggest, a richer version. Both moisturisers are available in fragranced and non-fragranced options, I have the non-fragranced creams to review.

The Moisturiser – Key Ingredients:

  • Pro-vitamin D3 – to support skin’s barrier
  • Ceramides – to hydrate
  • Hyaluronic acid – to hydrate
  • Squalane – Skin conditioning and hydration
  • Super fruits – Antioxidants

The Rich Moisturiser – Key Ingredients:

  • Ceramides – to support skin’s barrier
  • Cholesterol – to support skin’s barrier and to hydrate
  • Essential fatty acids – to condition
  • Oat kernel oil – Soothing

Packaging & Price

The packaging for both moisturisers is identical. Both come in a solid green, weighty tub with screw-on lids. The lids do a great job of keeping the product as airtight as possible.

The glass tubs are recyclable but are quite weighty which is worth bearing in mind if this may be an issue for you accessibility wise. I think that they may be tricky to travel with due to this also.

All of the product and brand information is printed onto the tub and is easy to read. The bold and bright green makes it easily recognisable to the brand – certainly in my skincare collection I can spot Skin Rocks a mile off which is fab!

Price wise, Skin Rocks falls into the luxury skincare category and is a considered purchase.

Skin Rocks The Moisturiser is £58 50ml

Skin Rocks The Rich Moisturiser is £65 50ml

Review

Like the Cream Cleanser, you can read my review of that here, the moisturisers are available in fragranced and non-fragranced options. This is great for those who enjoy the sensorial experience of a scented product but also provides options for anyone who may be sensitive to fragrance.

Both of the Moisturisers are designed to strengthen the skin’s barrier, restore moisture, hydrate and care for skin over the long term.

For reference my skin type is: Oily/combination with some sensitive areas. I use retinal serum so my skin needs good support.

The Moisturiser is a whipped cream texture. It is heavier than a water-gel (I’m thinking of Vichy’s Aqualia Gel cream here) and also heavier than say a lotion but that certainly doesn’t make it a heavy cream; perhaps a step prior to a traditional pot cream in weight. I know my fellow oily skinned folks will find this information useful!
It is surprisingly nourishing yet not greasy at all and a cream that my skin seems to drink up!
My skin feels silky soft, almost velvet like after use and it creates a lovely base for makeup.

The Rich Cream isn’t so different in terms of results. I achieve the same super soft skin and a wonderfully nourished complexion after use. The true difference comes in the occlusive texture and weight. This one feels heavier and is certainly richer than the original- as one would expect.
I find this version best to use at night, alongside my retinal. It is too heavy to use during the daytime for my skin but wonderfully supportive for my skin when paired with my strong active.
I do think this is key when choosing a moisturiser. Appreciating your skin type, your preference in terms of texture and what your skin may need to support it alongside other actives in a routine.

As I mentioned both of my creams are the fragrance free versions which I enjoy. Some scents can trigger a worsening in my chronic migraines so I do love that Skin Rocks offers this.

Final Thoughts

I am genuinely devastated that I’m coming to the end of my stash of the Skin Rocks The Moisturiser & The Rich Moisturiser. They have been an utter delight to use, test and review and creams I wouldn’t hesitate to restock. For my skin type, I would pick up The Moisturiser first, especially as we are coming into Spring and recommend The Rich Moisturiser for those with dry skin types. The only downside being the price price and considerable packaging weight for accessibility.

I have been thoroughly impressed by the products I have tried from Skin Rocks so far. Last week the brand realsed their new toner range, Exfolitone, which I have been kindly sent to try so do check back soon to find out more about those!
