Living Proof frizz ®Smooth Styling Range
Living Proof is a PETA certified cruelty-free brand that formulates its products without parabens or sulphates. Their products are suitable for colour-treated hair, and chemically treated hair and are always backed by science.
The Living Proof frizz ®Smooth Styling range consists of 14 products in total, ranging from shampoo and conditioner to hair masks and styling products. It is the styling range that I have to share with you today.
The line has a styling product for each hair type; fine, medium and thick hair is all catered for. It is worth noting that all of the styling product’s benefits are amplified when using the line’s shampoo and conditioner system.
For reference: My hair is naturally curly, fine, but I have a lot of it. My roots are oily, my mid-lengths to ends are always seeking moisture and with that FRIZZ!
Living Proof frizz ®Smooth Styling Spray
Designed for fine hair, this is a lightweight spray that works to eliminate frizz, detangle, and prevent static and flyaways without weighing hair down. It is silicone-free.

This is the lightest option of the three styling products so definitely the one to go for if you don’t like heavy products that may weigh hair down. It is almost like a mist and coats the hair nicely, without feeling greasy. There is a great detangling benefit to it – I’m a huge fan of the Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray – so I’m not surprised that this technology has made it into this product. My hair feels smooth and definitely frizz-free.

Living Proof frizz ®Smooth Styling Cream
This is a silicone-free styling cream that helps make hair more manageable. Controlling frizz and leaving medium, thick and coarse hair smooth and soft with a beautiful shine.

Styling Cream is the next step up weight-wise, in the styling range. This is the product you’re looking for if your hair wants more hold, more conditioning or if it’s looking for more moisture and needs a little more help to control. While it is a gel cream, it’s not heavy, which I appreciate. As mentioned above, my hair is fine but it also has a mind of its own with its waves and constant quench for thirst. This styling cream is a nice balance between not too heavy and not too light. It certainly helps create a smooth finish to the hair and has a pleasant scent.

Living Proof frizz ®Smooth Styling Serum
Best suited to medium, thick and coarse hair types, this is a concentrated serum to help give sleek, smooth and shiny hair. Living Proof also state that blow-dry time can be cut in half when using the serum!
Now the instructions do say to apply 2 pumps. My hair loves serum, I mean loves it, so I went in full hog, forgetting my hair is now shoulder length, not the long locks I once had… how have I not got used to that yet?? It was clearly too much. So first impressions were that it was a little heavy, but that was user error.
Enter trial number 2!
The serum is quick a thick texture. If you are accustomed to the likes of John Freida serum, this is a more viscous texture, so perfect for thicker, more coarse hair.
Applied correctly, hair doesn’t feel greasy or weighed down.

Individually I think each product definitely suits different hair types and I can see different people reaching for different ones. The serum would be too heavy for the finest of hair and the spray may be too light for the thickest. So I do like that there is an option for everyone, depending on hair type and product preference.

Living Proof does have further tips for combining the products which I find particularly helpful; especially as my hair can be a little contrary:
Usage tips:
- Medium, thick, and coarse hair types can double down on their smoothing efforts by applying No Frizz Smooth Styling Cream for extra conditioning to damp hair first and then follow with No Frizz Smooth Styling Serum.
- If your hair tends to get tangled, use No Frizz Smooth Styling Spray to help detangle your hair and then follow with No Frizz Smooth Styling Cream by applying mid-lengths to ends.
As my mid-lengths and ends always longing for moisture I decided to follow Living Proof’s advice and use the combination of Frizz Smooth Styling Spray and a small amount of No Frizz Smooth Styling Cream mid-lengths to ends. This was a brilliant combination! I have absolutely no frizz, my hair is super smooth and I have no tats whatsoever.
At my next hair wash, I tried the spray and the serum and while the serum leaves my hair a little more glossy, I think the spray & cream combo is perfect for me!
All in all, I think that the products really are formulated well to suit the hair types they are created for. If you sit in the middle, like me, mixing and matching can work a treat!
