This winter makeup edit, in tow with my ‘Party Makeup Looks – Three Palettes, Five Ways‘ post (do check this out if you’re not sure what I’m talking about) takes the Spice Of Life palette from Zoeva and breaks it down, creating five makeup looks perfect for this winter season. Shall we see some makeup ideas I created with it?

Zoeva Spice Of Life Palette

In the ‘Party Makeup Looks‘ post, you will find a full breakdown of cost per shadow and gram to help work out its value, plus a full description of its packaging.

I’m hoping this post will help you decide if this palette is for you and if you already have it, or receive it as a gift over Christmas, give you some inspiration for makeup looks to create with it. Enjoy!

As I talk about brushes a lot throughout this post, I’ve popped some makeup brush recommendations at the very bottom.

Longevity

These eyeshadows perform well. At hour 6 and 7 I still have impactful eye makeup that looks impressive. I would perhaps recommend those with oily eyelids to use an eye primer first, just to help hold the shadows in place.

Mattes

For matte eyeshadows in this price bracket I’m really quite impressed. The shadows are smooth and velvety and apply well without any patchiness. There is a slight chalkiness to them, simply from a lesser finely milled process but for the price and value of the palette, well it’s hardly worth noting.

Shimmers

These are really quite delightful. They apply nicely with a stiff brush (think Zoeva 234, one of my favourite and most used eyeshadow brushes and a great dupe for the Mac 239 ), work even better with finger application and come to life again with a damp brush. The only shade that doesn’t ring true is ‘Variety Is Key‘ which looks to be a purple-plum shade in the palette but has more of a brown/grey undertone once applied. It’s still very pretty though.

Swatches

Swatches of the Zoeva Spice Of Life eyeshadow palette

Makeup Look 1 Golden Smokes

Step 1: A simple gold smokey eye using ‘A Nuance‘ as a base shadow on the inner of the eyes to brighten.

Step 2: Using ‘Shared Joy‘ buff into crease/socket and just above to create a soft shadow. Continue this under the bottom lash line and join together. Blend edges.

Step 3: Apply ‘The Flavour‘ with a stiff brush to the mobile lid. Buff edges to blend into the matte shadow.

Step 4: Add eyeliner and mascara as desired!

I used:

Lips: Lisa Eldridge ‘Velvet Muse’ Lipstick with Inglot JLo Gold Lip gloss ‘Goldlips’ + Max Factor Lip Liner ‘Brown n Nude’.

Makeup Look 2 Berry Eyes

Step 1: Apply ‘Surprise Of life‘ in the crease and blend outwards creating a soft smoke. Using the same shade apply to the inner and out corners of the mobile lid, repeat on the lower lash line.

Step 2: Press ‘Balance The Contrast‘ onto the centre on the mobile lid, creating a halo effect.

Finish eye look as desired. I used: Stila Stay All Day Liquid eyeliner in black. A black kohl liner on the bottom lash line and plenty of mascara.

To finish off this winter makeup look I used:

Lips: Bellápierra lipstick ‘Cat walk’ + Charlotte Tilbury Lipliner ‘Pillow Talk‘.

Makeup Look 3 Matte

The easiest and quickest eye look.

Step 1: Blend ‘Shared Joy‘ over the mobile lid, into the crease and outwards into a soft smoke. Continue underneath the lower lash line, taking it quite low.

Step 2: Using a pencil brush, take ‘Surprises Of Life‘ and blend into the root of the lashes on the lower lash line and into the brown applied in step 1.

And that’s it! To finish off I simply applied Marc Jacobs Highliner ‘brown(out)’ in my upper lashline to tightline and Mac Kohl liner in ‘Costa Riche‘ in my lower lashline and smudge it down into my lashes. Then applied mascara.

These are of course optional steps and any eyeliner can be used.

Lips: Dior Diorific Mat lipstick ‘Elegante’ + Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat liner in ‘Iconic Nude‘.

Makeup Look 4 Purple Haze

I chose to share a couple of photo’s of this makeup in a different light as I really wanted to show how this shade shows.

Step 1: Apply ‘Variety Is Key‘ all over the mobile lid and into the crease.

Step 2: Blend the edges of this with ‘Shared Joy’ to create a soft, blended smokey eye.

Step 3: Take ‘The Flavour‘ on a pencil brush and run it under the bottom lash line. Repeat a few times to build up density.

I applied Marc Jacobs Highliner in ‘Brown(out)’ in my upper waterline to tight line and Mac Kohl in ‘Costa Riche’ on my bottom waterline. On my lash line on the top lid, I applied a very thin line of Kiko Waterproof liner in ‘Plum wine’ on the outer third to create a bit of interest.

Makeup Look 5 All the hues

Step 1: Take ‘The Flavor’ into the crease and blend out in soft edges.

Step 2: Apply ‘Shared Joy’ under the bottom lash line, blend edges.

Step 3: Using a finger, apply ‘Balance the contrast’ all over the mobile lid and also blend a little into the lower lash line using a small brush.

Step 4: Apply ‘Variety is key’ to the outer third of the mobile lid to add depth. Do the same to the bottom lash line, on the outer third. Blend edges to bring all the colours together.

Using Mac kohl pencil in ‘Costa Riche’ I lined the top and bottom water line, smoking out the bottom lash line also.

All In All

Honestly, this is a blooming marvellous palette for the price point, call me impressed! The shadows have a great payoff and the longevity is quite impressive. Yes, there is a slight chalkiness to the matte shades that perhaps give away their standing point in terms of high-street vs high-end but they blend very well and are not patchy in the slightest; a difficult feat for many a matte shadow.

The shimmers pack a punch, apply well with a brush but come to life with finger application. Be sure to tap your brush to rid any excess shadow and prevent fall out during application and you’re good to go.

With regards to eye colour, this is a palette that will suit everyone. Brown and hazel eye’d folk will enjoy the depth of shade whereas the warmth of hues will make blue and grey eyes pop (as you can see with mine).

This is a fab palette for a variety of winter makeup looks, be it every day or a bit of vah-vah-voom. It would make an excellent gift for a loved one or yourself. I’m blooming well pleased I chose to review it. Bravo Zoeva, bravo.
